Bounce Out the Stigma Workshop for Kids and Parents!
The EFEPA is excited to offer a new program on Saturday, October 26, 2014 for Children ages 8-21 and their parents! In conjunction with the Spring Valley YMCA the EFEPA invites you to join Might Mike Simmel for a Basketball Workshop. The workshop is designed to teach kids with epilepsy that they too can achieve their dreams. The Bounce Out the Stigma Project’s vision is to “teach every your person that we come in contact with to DREAM & fulfill their ambitions. We seek a community where kids do not grow up stigmatized due to the labels received somewhere in their life.”
“Mighty Mike” Simmel didn’t let his epilepsy keep him from achieving his dream of becoming a professional basketball player for the Harlem Wizards. He’s taken his experience and created a unique educational workshop that combines the fun of basketball with learning to feel more comfortable with their epilepsy. While the kids are having fun, the Parents’ Educational Workshop will focus on the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle, including nutrition and healthy cooking tips and a presentation on the physiological importance of being active.
The program begins promptly at 9:30 am and concludes at 12:30 pm. There is a nominal fee of $20.00 and each child will receive a basketball and t-shirt. The Spring Valley YMCA is located at 19 W. Linfield – Trappe Road, Limerick PA 19468. Call 484-984-2000 to register. Registration is required.
This is a wonderful opportunity for children with epilepsy to meet others kids with seizures and gain support and acceptance. To read more about Mighty Mike and the Bounce Out the Stigma Project, visit their website at http://bounceoutthestigma.org/.
